New Kids On The Block singing National Anthem at NBA All-Star Game

First of all, I gotta give NKOTB their props because they paved the way for Backstreet Boys and N'Sync. Many will even say they were New Edition for white people. Ok so they were...Nonetheless, twenty years and a comeback later, they'll be performing the National Anthem in Phoenix at this year's NBA All-Star Game. Now although the track they did with Ne-Yo (who will not be a part of the performance) is pretty hot, it sure as hell doesn't beat this...

Washington Post Write Up of Tabi Bonney's latest album "Dope"

Tabi's latest musical compilation, DOPE is not about him moving yellow, white, green and everything in between. Actually, many of the songs on the album offer a clever play on the negative connotative and colloquial uses of the term dope. I'm not a journalist so you won't get the review from me but Chris Richards at WaPo has you covered. If you're a fan, download the joint from iTunes (it's only $6!) and support the brother.

To all the unhappy Sprint/Nextel customers out there...

Working in the wireless telecommunications industry makes me privy to a lot of inside info. Although if you Google this, you'll get mad hits but I just want y'all to know I checked into this and it's true - Sprint is waiving early termination fees for ALL CUSTOMERS through January 31.

Here's a link to the class action suit filed against Sprint/Nextel:
http://www.topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/open-lawsuit-settlements/83-sprint-etf-class-action-lawsuit-settlement

Avoid the 20 minute hold and the Customer Dis-service Rep. entirely. Call 888 567-5528 and talk directly to the Cancellation Dept. For anyone who was denied, don't give up. Call 888 567-5528.

For original NEXTEL subscribers, the direct number to ACCOUNT SERVICES
is 866-235-1185 and these ARE the people that you need to speak with.

For all you frustrated Sprint/Nextel customers, The new $0.75 Administrative Charge and the $0.20 Regulatory Charge can be your ticket to cancelling your contract without paying a $200.00 a phone Early Termination Fee. Make sure you state that you are cancelling because of these material changes.

For you lucky procrastinators, you actually have 30 days from when the
charge first appears on your bill. So if your BILLING date is Jan 23,
you have until Feb. 22 to assert your right to cancel. Keep the
comments coming.

If you feel up to dealing with their customer service department to cancel, I suggest you give them a call. I've been Sprint-free since May 2008 and it took me five years to get out of two year contract because they renewed my contract every time I changed my rate plan.

Keep this with you throughout your week...

The question for each man (and woman) to settle is not what he would do if he had means, time, influence and educational advantages; the question is what he will do with the things he has. The moment a young man (and woman) ceases to dream or to bemoan his lack of opportunities and resolutely looks his conditions in the face, and resolves to change them, he lays the corner-stone of a solid and honorable success. - Hamilton Wright Mabie

Steed Lord - My Dirty Little Hipster Secret

This crew is straight out of Iceland (same country as Bjork) and I found out about them a couple months ago. As much of a hipster I am not (like six figures of my own money and a trust fund too short), I like a lot of the experimental DJ mixes you'll hear at many hipster frequented parties (Christian you're gonna definitely tell me about myself for this one lol). Download the MIX the DJ of the group, M.E.G.A., did a few days ago.

For my early Cash Money Records fans

You should be pleased to know that your man Juvie is back on his shit in '09. I found this video over at Cocaine and Blunts (always helping me attain mastery as a student of Hip Hop). I had to post this joint because Cash Money Records was a part of my life as a Black teenager growing up in the DMV area in the late '90s. I'm definitely a late bloomer though when it came to really appreciating early Cash Money - like once the label consisted of only Baby and Weezy. The joint goes and I think y'all will agree...

And there's a mixtape: Uptown Nolia Boy

Some Inauguration pics you may not have seen

My sister sent me a link from the Boston Globe with mad Inauguration Day pics. I liked the collection of photos mostly because they included images of viewers in places other than DC, NYC, LA and ATL, which are the places the networks were airing viewer footage during the actual Inauguration activities. Click HERE to see all of the photos.

About damn time - DC Week All this week on MTV2

Be sure to tune into MTV2 to see our city featured all this week. If you don't have cable, I know y'all know someone who does so take this opportunity to visit someone you haven't seen in a minute. Mad people thought they'd never see a Black President - Post Marvin Gaye, I never thought DC would receive proper recognition within the contemporary realm of music outside the area...well maybe Punk. I have to admit though, I'm finally happy to be back in DC after three years of trying to get in where I fit in. It's been a long time coming and I want to thank everyone who is continuing to make this a reality.

The Originator, none greater Jaz-O finish this s@#*...

Throwback I found over at TrackHustle with Jaz-O and Jay-Z six years before Reasonable Doubt hit the streets (Check my man Jay-Z with the Africa medallion towards the end of the video). They were definitely a solid duo and it's unfortunate that because of the bad blood that arose between them we'll never get a "Nigga What, Nigga Who" collab. Nothing lasts forever I guess...

So now that President-Elect Barack Obama can officially drop "elect" from his title

I want everyone to do themselves a favor - from this point on, believe in yourselves as much as you believe in him and his promise to the folks of the U.S. You'll undoubtedly see a remarkable change occur in your lives.

In search of the best all-around Female DJs in DC

Yeah, some of you may think I should be out celebrating history instead of blogging but my decision to start a business managed to coincide with the entire Election/Inauguration period. I wasn't going to put it off any longer just because of it. With that said...I am in search of the best all-around Female DJs in DC. I have heard some good ones who are great at spinning Electronic (and the many sub-genres within), Hip-Hop, Top 40, and or Experimental but never all the above and then some. I really appreciate the different male DJs I hear at the parties I attend but it's always hot to see a vicious female DJ kill it on the tables and have the party jumpin' all night. The DJ controls the party environment by reading the crowd and setting the tone - the band leader or drum major if you will (I'm a former band geek). It always feels good to see women in leadership roles so I'm calling on any and all Female DJs in the DC area who fit the description - Please step up and let your hands be heard.

The Most Comprehensive Inauguration Party (and some balls if you can still land a ticket) List Around

I figured since various blogs and websites are listing different parties, I would do everyone a favor and provide links to all sites with the info. Here goes:

Washington City Paper

360Nightlife

Elite DC Magazine (What up Anwaa) Free Party!

DC This Week ™ (What up Jade) has a nice round up for the next few days

The Fab Empire's DC Fab always works hard to keep you in-the-know so check what she's got for ya

And for my "family"-
Phat Girl Chic
A Different Kind of Ladies Night
Washington Blade

Hipster Overkill's The Fringe Series is definitely in on the celebratory festivities

If you're up for some shows, DC9 has an awesome line up through Tuesday

The Washington Post's Going Out Gurus (IMO the best in the biz) probably have everything I listed and more

And last but not least...
Because y'all have to eat to keep going through this (insert your perspective adjective(s) here) weekend, Google Maps has a list of all 213 restaurants and bars in the city that will have extended hours

If I missed anything shoot me an email and I'll update this post ASAP

The Groundbreaking was a success

I want to thank everyone who came out to the launch party last night at Jin (Thanks for everything Chris, Jonathan and Milton) for The Glass House. The turn out was nice for the first Glass House Experience - it has definitely been a long time in the making and I'm glad to have begun building the foundation. Best believe, The Glass House is going to be a beautiful place to "live" by the end of '09. Shout outs to DJ Uncle Q for keep the party going all night and Lafayette for capturing all the best moments of the evening. Also want to shout out Lauren and Kat for keeping everyone full and tipsy. You can expect monthly events with weekly ones to follow, so if you were there definitely holla at me and let me know what you thought.

First post of the year

Trying this blogging stuff out (and being serious about it, too) so bare with me. I'm going to make a conscious effort to update this blog daily because IMO you have to stay current to remain relevant. Since it'll pretty much be related to The Glass House I won't feel like such a jerk for giving my two cents on everything. So I say to you, "Enjoy!"
