In honor of Women's History Month...

Busboys and Poets (14th and V) has a special Nine On The Ninth event in honor of Women's History Month. The Nine On The Ninth is a now legendary monthly poetry series that debuted back in October 2005. Def Poetry Jam's Bassey Ikpi, Tala A. Rahmeh, Tara Betts, and Regie Cabico, to award winning poets Tyehimba Jess, Truth Thomas, Chrystylez Bacon, Bomani Armah, and young phenoms like 16 year old Taylor Johnson are some names that have graced the stage. It's a feature driven format, which means, the feature opens the show and the open mic follows.

This month's feature, Christine Celise, is the creator of WOMAN SPEAK, a bi-monthly women's series. WOMAN SPEAK is a movement, a language celebrating the voices of all women from all points of life. It provides a platform for women to share pieces of their life journey with other women in a nurturing environment. The concept was developed to bring the oneness of womanhood to the forefront through a sharing experience as well as an exchange to empower and connect women.

Immediately following the feature we hold a 10 to 15 minute nine question interview and audience Q&A with the artist that we call the BluePrint Sessions, before we finally slip into the limited open mic to close out the event. Thus you get a full show and have your appetite for people and poetry satisfied. Speaking of appetite, come hungry and take advantage of the menu.
